Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, age and gender, including pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions. Similarly, the Equal Pay Act prohibits employers and unions from paying different wages based on an employee’s sex. The precedent set by the Civil Rights Act and other anti-discrimination law allows employees to gain recompense for denial of equal rights to employment.
